Checklist

Safety Planning Checklist

This checklist offers gentle prompts for thinking about personal safety, home safety, digital safety, children, and getting support. You can use any parts that fit your situation, skip the rest, and return to it later.

Your Immediate Environment

  • Is there a room in the home that feels safer (e.g., with an exit, without weapons)?
  • Do you know where your keys, wallet, and ID are kept?
  • Is there a neighbour or friend you could go to on short notice?
  • If you needed to leave quickly, do you have shoes, medication, and essentials accessible?

People You Might Reach Out To

  • Who is one safe person you could text or call?
  • Is there someone you trust who can hold documents or spare keys?
  • Are there local or national lines you might contact if needed?

Documents & Essentials

  • ID, health cards, immigration documents
  • Birth certificates (you/children)
  • Financial documents, bank access, credit/debit cards
  • Medication, glasses, medical needs
  • Extra clothes or small essentials stored discreetly

Digital & Phone Safety

  • Is location sharing on for any apps?
  • Do others have access to your cloud backups or photo albums?
  • Do shared devices auto-sync messages?
  • Do you use a passcode or biometric lock?

Children (If Applicable)

  • Who can pick them up if needed?
  • Do they know how to reach emergency services (age appropriate)?
  • Is there a safe neighbour or relative they trust?
  • Are school/daycare contacts up to date?
